Tanya George introduces her band and reveals ‘Serious’, the first glimpse of her long-awaited debut soul, jazz, pop album, Contrast

Known for her dynamic vocal looping, four-octave range and energetic stage presence, Tanya George is now stepping out from behind her looping station and in front of her live band, revealing her new single 'Serious' out Wednesday 30 April via Xelon giving listeners the first glimpse of a new direction and her long-awaited debut album Contrast.

Embodying innovation, her genre-blending sound fusing soul, jazz, and pop bursts through the barriers in 'Serious', with a strong message for women in music and their personal lives. All music and lyrics written by Tanya George, for this new phase of her career, she has also stepped into the role of producer and mixer in collaboration with Lewis Pidutti, with the track being mastered by Lachlan Carrick.

Often felt dismissed and unheard both as a woman and as an independent artist in the music industry,  'Serious' is about the frustration of a one-sided relationship and people not taking Tanya's dreams seriously. With raw feelings, smooth and faultless tight vocal harmonies, funky guitar chords, laid-back grooves, and punchy bass lines, 'Serious' is a playful musical twist on real emotions.

"The song expresses the feeling of being dismissed, underappreciated, and misunderstood by someone who walked away while the narrator remained committed. With a raw, direct tone, it poses a powerful question: Why aren’t you taking me seriously? It captures the struggle to be seen, heard, and respected—not only in a personal relationship, but also within the music industry, where boundaries and voices are often overlooked," says Tanya George.
