Queensland Music Award finalist Sunny Luwe has released her intimate new single, Letter to the Future, a heartfelt plea for action on the climate crisis.
The track, which Luwe began writing in 2020 while still a full-time teacher, was completed late last year with the support of her husband and renowned producer Matthew Collins of WHARVES. Letter to the Future is a powerful reflection of Luwe's passion for environmental advocacy, aligning with her work alongside organisations like Green Music Australia, the Bob Brown Foundation, and the Gondwana Rainforest Trust.
Luwe’s inspiration for Letter to the Future came at a time when the world was grappling with the COVID-19 pandemic. “Around the time of Covid, I was really impressed to see the world come together to address the pandemic – and I wondered when we do the same thing about the climate crisis for the next generation?” she says. This thought sparked the creation of a song that would serve as a timely reminder of the need for urgent action to preserve the planet for future generations.
Originally intended to be an album track, Luwe realised that with the escalating urgency of the climate crisis, Letter to the Future needed to stand alone as a single. “With everything happening in the world right now, it felt like it needed to be a single,” she explains. The track’s emotional depth and compelling message resonated with her, urging her to release it as a call for immediate change.
Letter to the Future is a delicate, acoustic-driven tune with poignant lyricism that connects deeply with listeners. Its simplicity allows the gravity of the message to shine through, capturing the urgency of the climate crisis while evoking an emotional response.
