EDIE is back and bringing the action with the tale told through her newest single ‘Bleed’ and its thriller of a music video, out on Friday, February 28th.
Perth’s pop-rock princess, EDIE’s 2024 proved her to be a standout. Her authentic presence made sure that live shows were a true draw – her EP show in September 2024 at The Bird completely sold out. Her packed year of new releases led to her being supported by Rolling Stone AU, Tone Deaf, The Music, Music Feeds, Triple J Unearthed, Triple J, ABC Rage and so much more. After the release of a trail of edgy-cutthroat singles, she unveiled her debut EP ‘unsaid’ as the culmination of her gothic themes, receiving praise for her unapologetic energy.
Her gothic antihero energy continues on in ‘Bleed’, a bitter anthem to "love" in the modern era. 80’s danceable synth lends to the throwback theme of her recent releases, and EDIE’s sweet and sour vocals showcase her talent and her emotion as she rages about the seemingly universal fear of commitment: how it seems like everyone wants a girlfriend but nobody seems to want to commit.
The lyrics call out men who treat women like playthings without being honest about their intentions, and men who pretend to be ‘one of the good ones’ through trivial acts, like painting their nails. The song always brings it back to the refrain “let me bleed”, lamenting on the fact a hopeful part in EDIE keeps returning to those relationships.
Though the song is danceable and fun, the music video brings with it the iconic EDIE bite with a vintage tint, featuring beauty queens in puffy dresses, perms, and rouge. A bored man picks between EDIE and other beautiful women, without even lending them his full attention as he talks on a rotary phone to other women, spits, yells, and leers, until EDIE can’t take it anymore. It all comes to a head in a bloody shower as the beauty queens scatter, EDIE feasting on the man’s heart. She finally takes her award, taking her flowers and waving at the audience, her bright, beauty-queen smile bloodied. EDIE states:
“Bleed explores my frustration and anguish to modern dating. It seems like no one wants to commit and only wants to lead you on in these long, drawn-out, awful situationships!”
Feast on EDIE’s single ‘Bleed’ and its music video when they come out on Friday, February 28.
