Chani: West Aussie Hip-Hop Powerhouse Returns with New Single Magnetic

West Australian hip-hop femme fatale Chani is known for her bold approach to women’s empowerment, delivering hard-hitting lyrics with cheeky, raw honesty. Effortlessly blending hip-hop, funk, and electro-pop, she has crafted a trademark laid-back style that continues to push boundaries.

Making Waves in Aussie Hip-Hop

Chani first made her mark with her self-released EP Seasta Chani, solidifying her place in Oz Hip-Hop with thought-provoking themes on gender equality. She quickly followed up with the single Finding My Feet, collaborating on the film clip with award-winning director David Vincent Smith. The track earned a WAM Song of the Year nomination, gained national airplay, and received rave reviews for its powerful message.

Debut Album Life Sounds Like: A Critical Success

Following a successful crowdfunding campaign, Chani released her highly anticipated debut album Life Sounds Like, a WAMI-nominated masterpiece featuring collaborations with a plethora of musical talents. The album takes listeners on a journey through deeply personal storytelling, political themes, and social commentary, cementing Chani’s reputation as a fearless lyricist.

Expanding Horizons with Bows Don’t Go

A dynamic and formidable performer, Chani’s degree in Performance led her to branch out further, creating an album soundtrack for her FringeWorld show Bows Don’t Go. This solo musical production showcased her versatility across genres and saw collaborations with award-winning artists, including jazz pianist Tom O’Halloran, electronic producer Mei Saraswati, and Oz Hip-Hop legend Rob Shaker (SBX). The show earned Chani a nomination for Best New Music Act at the FringeWorld Awards.

The Rise of Seasta Chani and the Twilight Heist

A master of reinvention, Chani then returned to the West Coast Hip-Hop scene, elevating her live performances with a fresh incarnation: Seasta Chani and the Twilight Heist. Dubbed “the live hip-hop band to get any party started”, the dynamic act featured musicians Paul Hood (drums), Esther Olden (bass), and Joel Louie (MPC, guitar, turntables). With a successful run of boutique shows and festival performances, Chani cultivated a loyal live following.

New Single Magnetic: A Bold Evolution

Now, Chani is set to make a powerful return with fresh music and a new live show, again redefining Oz Hip-Hop. Her upcoming single Magnetic blends Power Pop, D'n'B, and her unmistakable lyrical attitude, proving she remains an unstoppable force in the Australian music scene.
