Teenage Joans: Australia’s Explosive Indie-Punk Duo Making Waves
Hailing from Adelaide, South Australia, Teenage Joans have solidified themselves as one of Australia’s most electrifying indie rock and punk rock duos. Since forming in 2018, vocalist-drummer Tahlia Borg and vocalist-guitarist Cahli Blakers have captivated audiences with their high-energy performances, raw emotion, and infectious melodies.
Their breakout debut single, ‘By the Way’, put them on the map, but it was their follow-up track, ‘Three Leaf Clover’, released in March 2020, that secured their status as rising stars—winning Triple J’s Unearthed High competition. From there, Teenage Joans skyrocketed, dropping their debut EP ‘Taste of Me’ in May 2021, followed by their critically acclaimed debut album ‘The Rot That Grows Inside My Chest’ in October 2023, along with an accompanying short film in 2024.
Teenage Joans’ meteoric rise has been fueled by industry accolades, including South Australian Live Act of the Year at the 2019 National Live Music Awards, and an impressive six wins at the 2021 South Australian Music Awards, spanning Best Group, Best New Artist, Best Punk Artist, Best Release (‘Taste of Me’), Best Cover Art, and Best Song (‘Something About Being Sixteen’).
With their genre-defying sound, hard-hitting lyrics, and an unshakable DIY spirit, Teenage Joans continue to push boundaries and redefine Australian punk and indie rock. Stay tuned—this powerhouse duo is just getting started.
